Served as a combat engineer in the Michigan National Guard, 107th Engineer Battalion of Calumet, honorably discharged
General Manager of 97.7 the Wolf, K-Bear 102, 99.3 the Lift WCCY radio stations and just put new station 96.3 Houghton's Breeze on the air (been employed at radio stations in Houghton since 2001, WOLV honored as Michigan Association of Broadcasters station of the year in 2018, awarded the Rusty Walker scholarship from Country Radio in 2013)
Established K-Bear 102.3 FM as the voice of the Calumet Copper Kings in 2021 and has broadcast 100s of Calumet and other sporting events on the radio/internet
Established 97.7 the Wolf as voice of the Houghton Gremlins
Married wife Mandy in 2004, have 3 children - Bella (sophomore at MTU), Max (9th grade at CHS), Mila (2nd grade), Black lab Sadie (11), fawn pug Margaux (9) and 3 cats

Bob lives in Crystal Fall Township with his wife Tina and grandson Tristan. He is a proud “Poodle Dad” of Ringo Starr, the family's Standard Poodle. They have 2 grown sons; Dustin Black of Sumiton Alabama with twins Ava and Axel, SFC Tyler (in the army) & Whitney Black with grandson’s Harley, Raylan and Weston of Conway, Arkansas. Bob’s son Clifford passed away in 2022 following a chronic illness of his heart and car accident.
“Buckskin Bob” wears his special designed leather, fringed jacket made from five of his own deer hides while doing his weekly Friday morning, “Buckskin Bob’s Weekend and Outdoor report on Telephone Time. Bob enjoys promoting and actively participating in the UP and Wisconsin Northwood’s happenings, events, attractions, and goings on.
Bob Black Promotions along with WIKB, have held eight “The End of Summer Blues Fest” in Alpha Michigan. Bob has been a long-time promoter and enthusiast of the local music scene. In January 2018 he was given the honor of being inducted into the fold of the “Sons of Legend,” a local, popular, recorded rock and blues band. According to Bob, “These guys are all my brothers.”
Bob has served as a celebrity judge for the Maple Syrup Fest in Phelps Wisconsin. He is known for his food pictures on Facebook from Michigan to Florida and all in the same week! His signature blues sunglasses are in each pic to identify his feast and recommendation of the day!
Bob enjoys mixed martial arts. He is a Michigan state licensed Mixed Martial Art’s judge and he is a MMA ring announcer in Michigan and Wisconsin. Bob enjoys the outdoors. He is an avid bear hunter. He enjoys fishing, especially sturgeon and ice fishing with his friend Rick. He spends as much time in the summer as he can with his family and friends on the Back Waters with the Pontoon boat. He enjoys camping, mushrooming and grilling. He is the Grill Chef year-round and loves to grill as much as he loves to eat! Unfortunately for Bob he has been treated for head and neck cancer. The radiation treatment has affected his ability to swallow but this has not stopped the “foodie” in Bob. He has been cancer free for 3 years and continues to eat his way around the country, the best he can.
Bob is a member of the Crystal Falls American Legion and serves as Adjutant. He serves as Sgt. At Arms for the Stambaugh American Legion Riders. He is a member of the VFW Auxiliary in Crystal Falls. He is a member of the Masons and serves as Treasurer. Bob was recently named “2024 Mason of the Year.” Bob is an active volunteer and leader in community events. He is a kinship Big Brother Mentor. He was the recipient of a special tribute from the Governor, State Representative and State Senator of Michigan for his outstanding community involvement, promotion, and service to Iron County. He served for 6 years as an Iron County Commissioner and worked as Iron County Chamber of Commerce Director for 3 years. Bobs is a former firearms dealer and NRA Firearms Instructor and trained thousands in self-defense. He lobbied for CCW, fireworks and helmet reform laws.
Bob is a retired firefighter. He served as President of the UP Firefighters Association in 2009 and was awarded UP Firefighter of the year in 2005. Bob continues to work as a firefighter instructor for the state of Michigan.
Bob’s love of the Upper Peninsula and Northern Wisconsin, his community involvements, and volunteer participation make him the perfect Sales and Promoter for WIKB.
