Joan Lucas, Director of Community Projects and Station Promotions at KAPP/KVEW joined the station in 2014 after a long and prestigious career in broadcast journalism and public affairs.
Originally from Lindenhurst, New York, Lucas graduated high school in three years at the age of 16. She attended New Mexico State University, and after graduating with a degree in Broadcast Journalism and a minor in Government in just three years, Lucas began her television career at KTSM-TV in El Paso, Texas. After a year and a half as a reporter and anchor, Lucas moved to the NBC affiliate in San Antonio, Texas. Over the next 12 years Lucas worked as an investigative reporter and anchor, receiving more than two-dozen awards, including honors from the Society of Professional Journalists and the Texas AP Broadcasters for excellence in investigative and specialty reporting. In May of 2000, Lucas moved to Kennewick, Washington where she became the Executive Producer at KNDU-TV. It was here that Lucas spent the next five years helping to mold the careers of novice journalists. Deciding then to leave broadcasting and enter the world of public relations.
